From what I've learned If you got oil consumption problems then I suggest you take the car to your dealership and have them take a look at it. If there is a problem then if you still have a warranty then they would repair it under that. I recently bought my a4 to the dealership and had them service it and told them about the oil consumption and was told to reset my mileage on the dashboard and drive and then when I notice it fall under with only a few miles driven then I would have to bring it back. So yea just take it to the dealership or just call them and explain to them the problem your having. Best of luck

thanks so much for your help!

rodhotter, it is a 2.0 cylinder I4 automatic turbo engine. sorry for not including that detail originally.

rahip, unfortunately, my car is past the warranty stage and so i will need to take it to a mechanic to take a look. but either way, i want it to get taken care of because this is a great car and i want to keep it for a number of years.

thanks, again!

a turbo engine needs quality REAL synthetic oil, you may want to try redline or amsoil, i believe 5-40 is recommended, amsoil has several oils use the top rated REAL synthetic, the price will tell you that. i run 10-30 in my 1.8T audi TT 2001 and same in my sold vw, they only use a little at high boost, both cars had stage 1 upgraded ecu and other goodies. stealer prolly uses a group III oil, maybe castrol that is legally called synthetic but is a highly refined petroleum product!!

thanks rodhotter!
i'll give it a try.

ready for a ridiculous question....

what is the difference between oil being "full saps" and "mid saps"? and which would you recommend in this case.
thanks again!

Take your car to the dealer and see if they will contact AoA for your oil usage issue. Check on Audizine for much more info on this issue. Anything you can get audi to do will save you out og pocket expense. You sound like your car need pistons & rings done to correct the problem.

I had the same issue; 2010 A4 Avant 2.oT burning oil when new at just under 1500 miles. Over the course of a year began to burn a quart in 600-700 miles. Dealership did oil consumption tests and replaced pistons. Can't imagine what that would cost out of warranty. Probably cheaper to sell the car and buy a similar one with a warranty. Mine now it goes 7000k miles burning about 1/2 quart. Going in for an oil change Monday.
