2011 A6 3.0 Burning Oil / Coolant
Hi everyone,
I have a 2011 A6 that I purchased a little over a year ago.
It has less than 15K miles.
Recently, the "low coolant" and "low oil" indicators came on within a few days of each other. When the oil light came on, there was a strong oil odor in the car, but no oil in the engine compartment that I could find.
I brought the car to the dealer to evaluate the condition, and they've told me that there is nothing wrong, and that I should expect to add oil and coolant every so often.
In the 30 years of car ownership, I've never had a car that consumed coolant or oil unless there was a problem, and since it's consuming both, my initial thought was a problematic head gasket. Since the car is relatively young, I'm concerned.
I believe the technician is being honest with me, given the diagnostic tools at their disposal, but I'm also concerned that those diagnostics are simply not reporting the condition, and that I'm going to seriously damage the engine by driving it while the condition persists.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with this particular year / model so that I can believe it's typical, rather than symptomatic?
Thank you for your replies.

2011 is in manufacturer new car warranty ... Make them repair under warranty and then if they can't fix it after certain number of repair ... ask Audi buys back under LEMON LAW, or Audi will offer you trade-in option also.
I won't keep and drive a car like that, just find the best way to lose least money.

Make sure you understand and follow the lemon law requirements for your state. Make sure you continue to take it back and make sure you get an inspection order that states your complaint - losing oil and coolant - not something generic. after 5 or 6 times, they probably have to buy the car back. Your fall back plan is to let it run out of oil or coolant and let it blow up the engine. Not as neat, but just as effective.
BTW, it sounds like a head gasket has gone south on you. A compression check is called for.
Good luck,
Bob
