I have an 04 allroad with the 4.2 engine. I'm posting this here because this engine is somewhat rare in the allroad.

Now that it has turned cold, in the morning, when I turn the key, nothing. Accessories come on, lights, gauges etc all on. But no sound, no click, no whine, no light dimming, no apparent voltage drop watching the voltmeter while trying to crank. Cycle the key a few times or sometimes hold the key in place then it will connect and crank.

Anyone experience this before? Suggestions? I am scheduled to get a new ignition switch tomorrow before I leave on a cross-country trip this weekend.

I had the same issue. It was the ignition switch. It should do the trick.
