The shop has everything back together and is having a problem with oil pressure. The two valves where the oil injectors are if you take them out and cover the holes with your thumbs oil flows to the engine however if you put the valves back in no oil will flow to the engine. It's not getting enough pressure to push those valves open.

The shop is trying to figure out what's causing it and I suggested it might be the oil pump.I think they are trying to explore other things because they don't want to fork out the money for the new pump.

Am I off base thinking it is the oil pump?

No, the car is about 10K miles out of warranty. However this latest work is being done on the shops dime.

WTF!!! this story is crazy but i have a question. Why Didnt you jus do an engine swap???????? you would have saved atleast $2000. i just did mine. i have a 99 a6 2.8with 87000 miles. water pump went, bent valves, bad oil leak. Swap out for 2001 a.6 engine with 49000 miles which cost me $1800. Labor was $1200. Total cost was $3000. what u paid $6000 for an 02' is crazy.

Where did you find the engine?

how does sludge happen then, I was under the impression that synthetic avoided sludge...
