517 Transmission just got my baby back!!
So a couple of weeks ago I bought a 2000 A6 2.7tin need of a torque converter for a steal and being that I'm on Long Island for an extended amount of time working and I don't have access to my heavy mechanic stuff I started looking for a shop that I felt comfortable taking my new car to... While NYC seems to have a few reputable shops I couldn't get comfy with any of them. Actually heard from one shop to get rid of it! Ha Must have a misunderstanding about why I bought it. Anyway I settled on Sam in Ogdensburg NJ of 517 transmission which I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with.
I spoke with him a couple times before settling on him and we decided to have me bring my car on the following week. I must have been excited because I left at 445 am on Labor day to get the car there to find that no one was going to be there that day... DUH what a way to start a holiday right? So I found a good place to put the keys and left the car.
Long story short I feel as thou Sam did what he said he would do witch was build me a converter, do the valve body, and labor.
I called him mid week to see if I could come get my car yet and he said they were checking the transmission and it seems the valve body was warped and was going to try to source one locally... 2 days later it came from Tennessee and he called to come get the car.
Initial impression was good. let it idle for a couple minutes and dropped it in drive and with no hesitation it locked in. Hmmm this might be fun. Back to reverse same thing. Ok lets get moving then! Pulling on the road was about the same as before but the shifts that previously were smooth became almost non existent in feel only the tach gave it away at first. (Don't misread as bad shifting) the tach was laser smooth and very quick to drop and register. So as of now im happy and no more cel for converter doom. 100 miles in and looking forward to pulling it into tip mode after the computer is relearned. Ill update if anything changes and if there are questions ill answer as best I can
