Default '95 A6 questions

So i recently got a 1995 Audi A6.

There are a couple dash lights out, only about 0-80 on the speedometer is lit up fully, the rest are very dim, and practically unsee-able at night. What's an easy cost-effective way to fix this?

Also, the radio has something wrong with it (I'm not sure what). It works when the volume is adjusted low, but as soon as the volume **** is touched, it shuts off, and rarely turns back on. I assumed it was a wiring issue, but I can even figure out how to remove the radio from the dash. Advice/tips?

Thanks,
Jimmy

I'd pretty much trash the radio. Its old and the volume **** is prolly on its way out. Mine is very hard to control the volume.

As for the lights, there are kits out there that will pretty much have all the bulbs you need. Someone will chime in with a link, I'm sure. You have to remove your cluster to get to them.

here's a write-up with part numbers from local auto stores:

And here's on replacing them w/LEDs:

Yep.. radio removal keys... You can get them on e-bay, Harbor Freight, Wal-Mart, or make your own.

there's a writ-up over at AudiWorld for that too.

youtube showing how. This a Double Din, but its the same way on yours:

The Audi volume control is not done with the standard rheostat like most vehicles. I believe it is called PPL and the control thing can be changed by someone that it knowledgeable. Check the internet I think there is a guy just south of Boston that fixes them, but I haven’t any experience with them.

Radio removal is done with two or 4 special pins. E-bay etc is your best source.

Dash lights - easy fix – remove instrument cluster and replace the bulbs. The biggest problem is getting the “special” bulbs. I have seen bulbs as low as a buck and as high as ten, but think 2-3 is Ok. Instructions have been posted here and on AudiWorld.

GALA Never worked right! LOL

I once had an Audi radio that had uncontrolled volume. It was OK until I touched the **** and then it went to full power. The only way I could change the volume was to turn it off adjust the **** to where I though it was Ok and turn it on. It was a PITA!!
