Default '96 longevity

I have a 1996 A6 2.8L Automatic trans, which I love. She is solid, reliable, and still in great condition. I have kept up all maintenance since I got the car, and it was originally owned by my grandparents. The issue is that I just crossed 170,000 miles. I got an estimate from a local shop that there is about $1,200 worth of maintenance that has to happen (excluding the 180,000 mile service.)

My question is, is it worth paying the cost (both $1,200 and 180,000 miles) to keep the car on the road. Or should I look at getting a newer car (I have been thinking about Mk4 GTI).

Any input is always appreciated and thank you all in advance.
