98 A6 2.8L control arm
I have three control arms where the bushings are separating. One of the bushings is completely torn. I don't have to tools/experience to do it myself and was wondering if I would be better off getting the entire control arm kit from ECS tuning and bringing it to my local shop or just having him replace what needs to be done now. I had two of the control arms done last year. It's $480 for the entire kit and I was wondering if the labor to do the entire thing would be that much more than just the three, possibly more (2 on left side, 1 on right ). Should I expect there to be a big difference in labor costs?
I just bought the Meyle kit from ECS Tuning for $500. Dealership quoted me $1200 for the labor and alignment. Called independent Audi mechanic and he quoted me $600-650 for the same job. I also have a 1998 A6Q. I think its worth buying the kit and taking it in if you don't have the time for a DIY. Good resources can be found here http://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel43.shtml.
There was a recall on a few of the control arms. It is funny, they all go bad, have the same problems, and defect way too early and way too often, but only two or four are recalled. The fix is in.
Check that out first. My understanding is that the replacement control arms will not have the same problems.
