Default 98 A6 hard starting after refueling

We filled up again for the second time since we bought the car and have started it a bunch of times in between and it starts right up but both times we refueled it was real hard to start requiring at least 10 seconds of cranking....all other times it starts in the first crank....

Thanks Dave...
No the car was off and so was the ignition....I filled it up,put the gas cap back on and started it ...
The (MIL) Malfunction Indicator Light is on and the codes are,
P1136
P1138
P0455
P0441
But it starts great every time except after the refuel...in fact, the first time it did this the light was not on...

Try pinching off the evap purge valve line going to the engine during refueling. And then start the vehicle with the line still pinched. Its the only place i can think of fuel, or fuel vapor getting to the engine causing a hard start. If the vehicle starts up right away you have a bad evap purge valve.

had the same problem with my 99 A6 about 2 years ago. Hard starting upon refueling. I don't recall the codes the computer through but they looked similiar (leak in evap, lean on one of the banks etc). I ended up replacing the purge value, this solved the problem and have no codes since replacing this valve. I believe the valve sticks open and causes the problem. The valve was about $180 about 2 years ago and very easy to replace. Hope this helps.
