98 gas tank

98 gas tank
I asked the folks in the VW and Audi A3 section this question and got no replies. I am hopeing someone here can help.
I had to replace the fuel pump on a 98 Jetta and as I removed the pump from the tank the mounting bracket that is on the bottom of the tank came loose. [:@] This is the one that the pump locks into so it stays in position. I think it has to be there or the pump will flop around.
Am I right in assuming that I will have to replace the tank, or is there a way to re-attach the bracket, or is there other fix??? [sm=sigh.gif]

RE: 98 gas tank
I had a similar problem with my Disco, and the local body shop just took the tank out and welded it off neatly. Never had problem with that again. Then, LRs are made to be repaired with hammer and torch.

Thank's for the input -- Unfortunately this is a plastic tank.. I bought some plastic epoxy at the reccomendation of the Auto parts guy but when I got it home the package said that it would not stick to polyethelene or polypropolene- I checked the internet and Wikii said thatplastic gas tanks are polyethelyene so I'm still screwed....
The people in the A6 forum are a lot friendlier and knowledgeable than the others.

Super Great Info![sm=americanasmiley.gif]
I was ready to use SS screws and sealer to mount the bracket in the tank, but I'll see if I can get one of those to work. [sm=bounceybounce.gif]
I continue to apprecite your sugestions......
If you keep it up I'll have to award you an Atta-boy!
