Hi, my friend called me today to tell me that his 99 a6 2.8q tip w/ 145k mi. will start but wont shift out of park. This has happened before for him and once when i drove his car, but if you just forced it it would into gear(probably should've been the first sign something was up) but this started during the winter so we both kinda just thought it was from the colder temperatures. Anyways has this happened to anyone else? could it be a switch, linkage, or fluid? Thanks, Nick

 

maybe the brake pedal switch .. you can't get out of park without hitting the brakes so that could be faulty
