99 A6 advant Tip
Gentlemen, i have a neighbor that has a 99 A6 wagon, he is hearing a clicking noise at low speeds when the car is in motion. He had our local dealer investigate and they said the CV joints and the torsion hub needed to be replaced. What is a torsion hub? I have helped another friend with CV joints in a different car , so I thin I could do this, but what about the torsion hub, can you guys explain to me what this is and if there is a manual he can get to help us if we decide to do the work ourselves?
Thanks

RE: 99 A6 advant Tip
My guess is the dealer is talking about the wheel hub that the drive axle splines into. He might think that one the wheel bearings is noisy or going bad -- and he can fix that while he's in the vicinity. The dealer can replace the wheel bearing on the car with special tools (Audi's don't need to have the whole hub and bearing assembly replaced as a unit like on some makes), but you can remove the upright and take it to a dealer or other shop to have the wheel bearing replaced.
I've bought paper Bentley manuals for my past Audi's, but I bought a $100 CD from Bentley Publishing for the '99 A6 I have now. I've gotten used to it and have printed sections I've needed for a specific repair. CD paid for itself first problem I had.
