99 A6 Fuel Filter Strap -- WTF!!!
Hey.
What's up with the fuel filter strap on this model. The Strap is held in place with a star bolt, and when I try to unscrew it the bolt turns but does not loosen. There is NO WAY that you can reach the other side of the strap with a wrench or pliers to hold a nut if there is one. Can anybody help me out? I'm about to cut the strap and try to rig a new one somehow.

Y eah i know what you mean!! same problem, got a hacksaw to it and drilled some little holes either sid of the strap and rejoined it together with some heavy duty cable ties!!! it has done the trick and its sturdy, go steady on the drilling around fuel pipes, petrol etc etc. you can get to the top nut when the filter is out the way. i clamped the rubber hose to stop fuel leaks.
The triple square bolt should come out when you un-screw it, if it doesn't the block that it threads into is stripped, try prying in between the plastic with a screwdriver or something while turning the bolt out, that will put tension on the block and will let you turn out the bolt.
The screw land in a metal nut, or is it just plastic thats been tapped to meet the thread specs? If its a nut, would anybody happed to know the correct size?
The nut is part of the strap itself, it won't come off even if you get the bolt out, it should be 6mm by 1.25mm thread pitch if you manage to cut it off.
