I want to take advantage of the great BOSE sound and play my iPod and iPad through it....looking for links to the configuration of the stereo system; methods and perhaps links to adding the capability to use the APPLE products- and also sources for needed 3rd party equipment

Blitzsafe makes an adapter that you can plug into the back of the radio. It takes over the CD changer. They make either an RCA (which you could use to connect a headphone jack to) or an iPod adapter (no idea of compatibility). I recently installed one in my wife's 2000 A6 (symphony stereo, but the connections are the same) and it works well. Nothing crazy, you just get an aux jack basically.
