i have a 1999 audi a6 2.8L quattro and i love the car. i've loved audi's since i can remember. but recently my water pump broke which shreaded the timing belt, and bent my valves with only 87,000 miles. Im the dreaded better too early for TB job than 1 day too late TB story. So running me about $3000 for repairs. im a student and i need a reliable car. i recently saw this posting for a 2004 acura tl with 80,000 miles for $15,999. Now im the biggest audi fan but in my opinion, i think the acura looks alot better than the c5 and is more reliable, and not to mention, very easy and cheap to fix. What do you guys think, stick with my 99 a6 and ride it out, or look in the other direction with the Acura TL?

That's a pretty good deal for a '04 TL even with that many miles, if it is in tip top condition, I'd say go for it, Honda/Acura is a very reliable brand, and 3rd gen TLs are beautiful inside and out. You had a '99 2.8L, I'd say it's time to upgrade in some way, 2.7T+ or the TL.

I've driven the Acura, its a nice car but its too soft and no fun to drive. You need to do what you need to do and your cimcumstances are surely unfortunate. I'll kill myself before I own rice though.

Maybe pick up an 01 to 03 4.2 for cheap....the V8 is a very reliable engine. TL is boring to drive and front wheel drive

id say audi ive driven both and the acura is not even close in quality. Its front wheel drive vs. awd. German engineering or Japanese Engineering. Its all up to your personal preference. But if you ask any audi owner they wouldnt trade for a jap car.

Well, I might trade for a NSX. It's the car that made me get into cars in 1991.

I came to Audi after 9 years of daily driving a 300ZX, which left to its new owner as a 511hp twin-turbo. Great car, surprisingly quite reliable, very much fun, solidly built, and fast as hell, but honestly, I love my A4. Maybe I'm in a different phase of my life now (now that I'm 33 with two toddlers), or maybe it's the 9 years of ownership, but I really don't miss the Z that much - not nearly as much as I thought I would. The Z, like most Japanese cars, was built very well, but the Audi is in a different league entirely - it feels like it's hewn from a block of granite, even after 154k miles. I'd have a hard time going back to a Japanese car, unless as bdmstang said, it's an NSX - that's been my wet dream since it came out. I've driven three of them over the years (the most recent being a literally flawless bone-stock 91 model with 31k miles, bought in TX by a coworker and driven home to NY), and I love them - amazing car for being as old as it is, even compared with a lot of more expensive, newer sports cars. Barring that though, I will probably stick with German cars for a LONG time.

yea the tl is boring ... my buddy has an 04 ... its blue with that crazy orange leather ... thats the only thing i like about it ... but cornering sucks and you get the feeling that its just gonna explode when u punch it when u floor the a6 its all around solid power with quattro
