99 shifter mechanism is out of alignment?
My c5 wont shift into park. To start it, I first turn the key one click, then put the car into neutral, and then turn the key the rest of the way.
Also, the mechanical marker down by the shifter doesn't coorespond with the gear it's in (i.e. when in true neutral it shows R), and because it doesn't line up, it cannot be put into tip mode.
The shift does go past R, but not quite into P, so the car rolls as if in neutral, but the key is removeable.
I assume this is a mechanical problem.
Can anyone post a pic of the assembly, so I can see what I'm getting into?
Does anyone know why this has happened or what to look for? how much of the dash and console will I have to disassemble?
Also, how do I remove the shifter ****?
thanks for your time, it's much appreciated.
