A6 2005, 06 and 07 summary
Hey guys,
I am in the process of buying an A6 and its going to be a used model. I would appreciate if I can learn from you guys the differences between 05, 06 and 07 models.
I can pay much less for an older model 05 with higher miles but not sure if there was major modifications.
thanks

The 05 and 06 4.2s were 40 valve and in 07 they went to 32 valve and added FSI. The 3.2 engine was unchanged. I also believe that paddle shifters, adaptive air suspension and laser cruise controlbecameavailable options in 06. I have the 05 4.2 and it has been a great car.

how about other things? its always that the first models have electrical/mechanical issuesbut in the later models they do preventative measures...
I red posts on here about 05 models where a few people made a few trips to the dealer. Is that something to worry about when buying a 05?
so there was no engine or body style change when the 05 models became 06 or 07?
I appreciate the feedback, i know as a newbie it may be hard to get answers....but I plan to stick around and be part of the audi family...

Body styles remained the same through all three years. The MMI software has seen many upgrades. My 05 came with version 10.5 and is now on 33.4. When looking at any Audis I would take the VIN number to your local dealer and confirm that the service and software upgrades have been performed.

Audis tend to have a 7 year cycle with a headlight/tailight refresh along the way. MMI is the Multi-Media Interface. It is the software that allows the user to operate the radio, cd, mp3, navigation and telephone. In other words it is the brain for the car's creature comforts. When the current A6s came out they had some glitches, all of which have been fixed through software upgrades.
