A6 Adaptive Headlight Defect.
I have a 2006 Audi A6 with a "Adaptive Light Defect" light on my dashboard. It has been diagnosed as the left headlight;
"- 02627 - Left dynamic corner motor open / short to +"
The dealer told me that I need to replace my whole left headlight which is about 1300$.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Any solutions to fix it that do not involve replacing the whole headlight?
Thanks

If you are mechanically inclined I would recommend removing the headlight and checking it carefully for damaged wiring. One member on another forum found a broken wire and fixed it for nothing.
If you are not mechanically inclined or you find the problem is more serious purchase a used headlight assembly from FORCE5 Auto or Shokan and have it installed by a good independent Audi shop.

How difficult is it to remove the headlight? If its not that complicated to remove then I will attempt to do it myself.
Do you know if its possible to install the 09-11 headlights with the LED's onto an 06?
Thanks for the help

Hello Everyone i have repaired myself this error and here is how, first of all i thought it was just unbelievable to pay 1000 dollars for a headlight assembly just because Audi couldn't do a good design, any how here are the steeps:
1.- Using VCDS go to headlights module
2.- make sure your lights are ON and shining ageist a wall so you can see them
3.- Clear the codes and observe which light doesn't turn side to side NOT UP AND DOWN.
4.- Once identified turn the lights of and remove the headlight assembly that is causing the issue.
5.- in my case the driver light was the issue and wasn't turning side to side.
6.- dissemble the headlight and remove the small motor that moves the lights
7.- search on your local yellow pages for "gears"
8.- Take out the PLASTIC gear attached to the motor and buy a METAL one (1.5 Dollars)
9.- Put the gear in tho the motor shaft and solder it (electronic soldering iron and regular ROHS soldering worked for me)
10.- in my case there was a small plastic piece that looked Popsicle stick that was broken.
11.- go to a local stainless steel fabrication company and have it made (19 bucks)
12.- put everything back together
13.- Clear codes again and voila !! no error and no more paying outrageous prices to a dealer
i really hope it helps, i will post some photos as soon as the forum allows me to, brand new member here but sick and tired to pay the dealer to do a much worst job than i can do.
PS sorry for all the typos , doing this from my phone.

I had the same problem a few months back on my 05 4.2 with 138k miles and the dealer replaced the entire unit for free under "warranty". I suspect that there must be a known defect with these lights and Audi may have a secret warranty.
