Default A6 Auto range headlight question

I've got a 2002 A6 2.7t, with auto xenon headlights, the one's that stay on the same spot on the road regardles of vehicle load or accelaration or braking, I'm not exactly sure what they're called. But anyway, they've always worked fine, but yesterday I got a warning light in the dash, I looked it up in the manual and it said it was the auto headlight feature malfunction indicator light, the warning light looks like a headlight symbol with an up and down arrow. The headlightswork fine, but they don't move automatically anymore. The nearest Audi dealer is 250 miles away, and I was wondering if there was any chance I could fix this myself. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I've attached a picture of the symbol. Excuse the poor computer drawing.

i'm pretty sure this is the sensor for the headlight level. i could be wrong because i'm not 100% positive, but it makes sense. anyways, it's on the driver's side in the front wheel well attached to the lower control arm. maybe just check and see if it maybe broke or slipped off. could be an easy fix. although since you're getting a MIL, it leads me to believe that it's something electrical and not just a part that's come off or broken. can't hurt to check it out i guess, especially if it saves you driving 250 miles. sorry if it's too large, i shrunk it but i didn't want to shrink it too much so that you could still see the details if you needed to.

I just towed the car on a flatbed last weekend and i was messing around down there trying to find a good spot to hook a safety chain, I'll bet I knocked it loose. Thanks.

I checked it out, and everything seems to be in place, so I guess it'sback to the dealer. It was just there last week for a ton of other problems. (Bad CTS, bad CTS switch, new oil return lines for turbos, short in turn signal lever switch, bad abs relay, drivers side window off track, thank god for extended service contract)

brownbo1,

I am glad to see that the auction turned out ok. Besides the headlight issue, how did the rest of the car turn out?

Hey...thanks man. the car is great! one little ding on the passenger side, other than that its in great shape! I love it and I love the fact that I got a killer deal even more. I picked it up for $17K.

I got the headlight thing fixed yesterday...they just reset the headlight system and all is good!
