Default A6 Avant questions

Hello all, I bought a 97 A6 avant Quattro awhile ago and I have been reading this and any other Audi forum I can find, night and day ever since. Lots of great info here. I intoxicated with the feel or the sprite of this car, I have always said “power is nothing without control”. I bought some needed parts from Shokan, but not having an owner’s manual or a repair manual I’m stuck. (I’m surprised at how much these cost, a minor setback) So maybe someone here can answer a couple of questions.

The outboard rear seatbelts pull from inside the seat back. My rear passenger side was cut (I have not idea why) I can not open up the seatback to replace it. I can get seat back out of the car but I can’t seem to open it up. Do I need upholstery skills and tools to fix this?

There is a button on the driver side “b” pillar across from the lumbar support ****. What is that for?

Is it a good idea on a 160,000 mile car to have the transmissions fluids and filter replaced?

The rear driver side inner tail lights needs to be replaced. Is there a trick to removing the inside hatch panel?

Sorry about the length of this posts but all advice is much appreciated. Thank you

Default RE: A6 Avant questions

Welcome to world of AUDi form another 97 A6 Avant owner. Mine has 160K so we should have a lot in common. To be truthful the damn vehicle ownes me but that is a different story.

I will see if I can help answer your questions. I am at work, but I have the Owner's Manual, Bentley manual on CD, and print manuals for the 4000, 200, and 90 at home., so I'll look into the seatbelt, rear light and switch for you when I get home. As for the Trans fluid - it is supposed to be "lifetime" and if you change it plan on spending a bunch of money. I have heard $120 for the kit and some have said the dealer charged them $300.

I have heard good things about Shokan, but get my Audi stuff from Chris Semple at Force 5 in Concord NH becuase he can provide origional quality new and used parts - and his prices are very reasonable.
