The whole cluster? The whole thing is one unit and I don't believe you can just swap them out between models at all.

Yeah the whole thing. So do I have to get one for an a6? The two look the same! or do the clusters have something to do with the VIN number?

Well first, why do you want to get a new one?

because my center display is all jacked up! I cant read the center part at all and the top and bottom parts are hard to make out. So I really want to get a new one but not from the stealership. I was looking on ebay. and at LKQ. Any thoughts?

The majority of us all have the same problem and there really aren't any easy ways to fix it - or even to buy a new one. How much were you willing to put down to fix it? That's the main decision maker.

Here's one of my posts that explains most of it:

And the main link you'll want to check out:

swapping the cluster is more of a problem than you think the emobilizer must be reset, most dealers will not do this unless you get a new unit from them. I just had mine repaired at dna speedometer, they did a great job and it is working perfectly now the cost will be around $200.00.

Michael, to answer your question - No. An A4 cluster will not fit in your A6. Let alone...the incorrect A6 YEAR will not fit into your A6. lol. When it comes to the instrument clusters, audi made certain to only let the correct cluster for the VIN # work. If you search my posts, you will find my post on my buying a new cluster from audi. The first cluster they ordered me, even WITH my VIN# was the wrong one! haha They still tried to install it so they wouldn't be wasting my time - but it would still not work. My early model '01 was not equipped with an immobilizer. Late '01-04 was. They ordered me one with an immobilizer - correct cluster and everything...and it would still not work. But moral of the story - no it won't work. Either pay someone to fix yours (I hear you can ship it over to Germany for 175 Euros and get it fixed...or do what I did. Cough up the dough depending how important your display is to you and goto Audi (get a brand new one). Even though it was rough coughing up the dough - I have no regrets whatsoever. I stare at my new display every day.
