Default Replacing the speedometer cluster?

I want to know if it's possible to replace the speedometer cluster with an already used one? What are the steps? Do I need to get it recoded at the dealer or something?
My cluster lcd broke and it's not working. I tried to replace it with a new one I purchased on ebay but it's a pain to resolder all the joints, nearly impossible and I screwed it up.

I asked 2 techs, and got pretty much the same answer on the used instrument cluster reprogramming question. A cluster can be reprogrammed one time only. So it's a gamble that the one you get from a wrecking yard hasn't been reprogrammed once already. I googled and came up with SOS diagnostics, it appears they are a company that can reprogram clusters. Maybe somebody else here has had this done and can make another recommendation for you. I've never dealt with them, so I don't have an opinion on SOS.

I could quote you on a new cluster (expensive) but it sounds like you have a part lined up. So I hope this information helps you out. Any questions that we can help answer for you please let us know. Thanks, Jeff.

Thanks for the reply Jeff,
I'm going to take the used cluster to the dealer and have it reprogrammed and coded to fit my vehicle.
