Not sure why you won't get a Vag-com. The cable sells for about $15.00 on eBay and you can use the freeware for many basic operations on your Audi.

so.. if u only replace the batt in the remote , u should reprogram the fob with the second fob, one in ignition , one in the door.u don`t need vag for this, just have the second original key. if u don`t have the original , or any other key to do the 2 key process, than u should go to the dealer , or if u have the cars paper with the skc and 4no pin , u may program it yourself with vag-com , but vag-com , must be full version to access and do changes is major modules. the cable from ebay work too but u still need the licence for full version , or someone in your area with vag . good luck!

1. Stick the key in the drivers door
2. lock the door manually
3. press the lock button on the keyfob
4. unlock the door manually
5. press the unlock button on the keyfob
6. remove key from door and it should work.

Only 2001(2) + cars need a vag-com to program their keyfobs. If you have more than one keyfob let me know and I will look up how to get them all to play together nicely. It might be unlock then lock in the directions above, don't remember.
