Default aftermarket fuel filter, fuel pump question

Hey Guys,

Could any one tell me what the best aftermarket (non oem) fuel filter and fuel pump is for the 2000 a6 4.2 engine? Price is not an issue but i would like to get the most out of the parts. I have heard that the Walbro fuel pump actually increases performance. Is this true? what about fuel filter wise - can any one recommend one over another? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A fuel pump/filter will not improve performance unless you have modified the engine and your current pump is unable to provide enough fuel. The stock pump can provide more than enough fuel for a stock engine at full power.

Aftermarket fuel pumps are required by a lot of the modded turbo engines. When you increase the size of the turbos and start injecting more air you need similarly increased amount of fuel. In this case you often need to increase the size of the injectors and the fuel pump. The filter typically does not need to be changed.

If you need to replace a failed pump on a stock engine I would recommend you go with the OEM brand, typically Bosch. They have been tested for long life and changing fuel pumps, even with an empty tank, is a PITA.
