K&N in the stock box.
These stock intakes are good enough to stay in up to 400HP.
atleast thats what they say on audiworld....

what alex said, im in the process of getting materials together to add another intake line onto the box so even more air gets in, ill be doing up a little DIY for us once i get the materials and have the time to install it, which should be fairly soon (hopefully)

i saw a post about someone taking another "snorkle" from the lower grill when the intercooler duct is and funneling it into the airbox. Might work well.

K&N, you will benefit long term cost, as for HP gain, that is questionable. i got one on and i bet you there is no observable difference when compared to stock

its most likely slight, but if u think about it,what the air filter company bases their stats on is, the more air you have going through = more torque/power that the car engine/car can make bc its not being "starved" for oxygen...this is how cold air intakes work (obviously)...K&N filters allow more air through then a normal air filter does, there by creating the above result...so my theory as with everyone elses in that link to the thread i posted above is that, if u add another hose line, that allows even more air in = more power/torque again lol...and if u look on the K&N site, or whatever, they typically say u only get about 5hp gain from their filters/intake...and when it comes down to sitting in the car...yea thats a barely noticable difference, but meassured at the wheels, thats still more power

i mean there is an actual dude who did it and posted pictures he had it replace his passenger side fog light because he lost it, so he used the foglight opening and a tube to add more air into the intake.

K&N drop in
drill holes at the bottom of your box and you can even make slots in the front of your passenger wheel well liner... more colder air will come in. Check a recent thread on audizine A6 forum...
