I put 114,000 miles on my 02 2.7t before trading it on my 05 4.2. They eat tires for breakfast!!!!! Most I could ever get was 28,000 out of a set of BF G's before having to get rid of them due to the shaking. The P6's were great till around 22,000 before shaking the car apart. As the tire gets miles on it seems to go out of round or the cords separate or something. The C5 chassis seems to be very prone to this. I even changed shocks and springs cause I thought they were bad. Didn't help. New tires with a road force balance fixes it every time. You can do a road force balance on the used set and it helps some, but goes bad in a very short time. Change out the tires, they only go 20-30 thousand miles, nevermind how much tread is left. I went through a bunch of tires on that car. The new C6 chassis is much better with less tire wear and no shake.

Well I hope my tires are not the problem, they are about two - three months old and were installed by the dealership but I bought them elsewhere, they are falcon Ziex's

Not trying to be rude but maybe your tire ware is do to your driving habits, I aso have a 2001 Corvette with a ZO6 Kit and the tires only needed changing at 60K as they are supposed and that car gets DRIVEN

Is it normal for an AUDI A6 Q 3.0 to have mild vibration when engine is running. I can feel such a thing while standing still or running at low speed.

Check your motor mounts for that engine vibration.

As far as your Corvette, those don't eat through tires like the Audi's do, you are comparing very different vehicles. The audi's have a much more complex 4-arm independent suspension that when put together properly provides a much nice ride while still offering serious corner carving performance. However, with this configuration your alignment has to be spot on to keep the tires in good shape. I suggest having an AUDI dealer do your alignment. It will cost you little more than anywhere else, and is definately worth it. These cars have different parameters to align than those of your typical car. If these are aligned by a Mech used to doing mustangs you will find the inside edge of your tire will be gone in 10k miles. This also causes the vibration over time as the lack of rubber only on the edge of the tire causes a balancing issue within the tire itself. This also means you will need NEW tires to fix your problem even after very few miles. Just spend the money to get it done right.

I know its not my driving habits. Even the wife calls me grandpa. I can get 60-80,000 miles from a set of tires on any other vehicle butan awd Audi. They don't wear funny or wear the tread out at all. It seems like its just the tire that goes bad. When the car was new I blamed the tire mfgr., however after 114,000 miles and every brand you could get. I have come to the conclusion that it is the car. I've had allignments done, wheels balanced, different set of brand new audi wheels and tires, shocks and springs. The C5 chassisjust seems to break down the internals of the tire quite fast. You can also tell a real good tire, (Michelin), from the poor tires with an audi. You can feel the flats spots that come from setting, and the rocks in the tread or the small bit of mud in the rim that throws it out of balance with an audi. I notice my C6 chassis is much less prone to this than my C5 was. Sure hope to see the tires last longer too. I'd be happy even getting to 40,000 miles out of a set before they start shaking all to hell, and giving up in the handling department.

I have an Audi A4 with 60k miles. I had the original Pirelli tires on until 54k with no problems. I purchased new Pirelli’s from NTB and they kept going out of balance. I called the dealership and they told me to get Michelin Pilot Sport because there seem to be a lot of problems now with Pirelli's. I had NTB put on new Michelin's and the tires continued to go out of balance. Found out I had two bent rims which Audi sent out to get straightened (oddly enough those bent rims didn’t effect performance of car with the old Pirelli’s.) But the tires still kept going out of balance and then out of round. NTB has put on 3 sets of new tires now. Someone just told me the rims must stay in the same place for some cars and cannot be rotated. Is that true?[/b] NTB has rotated tires and rims all around trying to fix the problem. The dealership claims there is nothing wrong with my car but tires can’t seem to hold their balance. They go out of balance and then out of round and then NTB replaces the tires (for free.) I now have 60k miles and have been through 3 sets of new tires in 6k miles.

A4's are much easier on tires too. Wished I knew why. Lighter maybe? Anyway, a bad rim or tire will show up all to frequently with the Audi line. I tried some Dyna Beads which is supposed to balance as you drive, boy was that a mistake. It makes it worse. Now I have to get it out of the tires. The only answer is to buy good tires and make sure the wheels are perfect! Also need to road force balance with the Audi dealer. Nobody understands how they have to be so spot on for balance better than them.
