Default Annoying rattle!!

Hey all,

After having my car in for check and asking them to find the source of an annoying rattle Im getting from my front end, they suggested that it may be a heat shield and told me that it could possibly take up to a couple hours to source and fix it.

I told them to forget about it (due to the cost of labor) and thought about trying to find it myself.

Anyone else ever have a heat shield loose that caused a rattle at idle?

It usually does it after running the car for a while and then slowing to idle, as soon as i start to open the throttle the rattle stops.

Any suggestions as to where this may be exactly or how it could be fixed? I ruled out the possibility of a belly pan clamp because I've tightened any that were loose.

Thanks!

Not sure if mynoiseis the same, after getting my car back from a serp belt job I got a rattle when leaving 1st gear. Obviously, its the 6 spd. When I let off the clutch and start to move forward I get a rattle for a second. On the passenger side I think? I thought it was something that he forgot to tighten (the belly pan??) but know I am paranoid and am thinking something in the gearbox???

Side note: it makes the rattle anytime I am in a higher gear than I should be.
e.g. When slowing down to turn down a street if I stay in 3rd (probably should be in 2nd) the R's then drop to about 1k it will make the rattle sound.

Does this sound like the same symptons you guys have?

I have had this happen on other brands but same dielma. It is the heat shield most of the time. It often happens at a certain rpm because the vibration is just right at that rpm.It wont happen under or over thatbut, usually about a 2 or 300 rang in your rpm's
eg. 1500-1700 rpm you hear the rattle usually verry tinny sound
Dont know if this will help but good luck. Find something to tighten it down with like wire or tin strap

I have a rattle also but have not gotten around to fixing it yet. Exhaust repair shop informed me that some cars have as exhaust pipe whithin an exhaust pipeto help with heat, He says that sometimes this inner pipe will come loose and rattle. He also said they could fix it by simmply drilling a hole in the outer pipe than tack weld pipe to pipe and weld shut. At least that is what I was told.

Would you all agree that it is not trans related? Possibly, the heat shield or another member of the exhaust system. That certainly sounds more plausible.
