Sorry if this has been answered, I didn't find the answer in search.
Well I own a 99 a6 2.8 andI have projection headlights but the bulbs are halogen bulbs. If I just wanted to have brighter headlights like the Sylvania whit light bulbs found at auto part stores; is it possible to just switch the bulbs out. If so is it pretty simple to DIY w/o any special tools?

 

yeah real easy about 5 mins. I picked up some silerstar syl. from auto zone for about 50. bucks for both sides it is a cleaner white light(not that ricer blue). it looks better than stock yellow color.

50 bucks for halogen bulbs??? At that rate you might as well spend a little more and just go to HIDs. LEAGUES ahead of even the brightest halogen bulbs.

 

I agree with alias747. If the lights bother you so much upgrade to the HIDs. You have to watch out for the silver star "high output" bulbs. I ran a set in my girlfriends Infinity QX4 (truck) and they literally desroyed the stock harness and plugs. They drew so much wattage they melted and shorted out the plug. They sell after-market plugs for these particular bulbs. Find them and use them. Or take your chances. This could have been a fluke but, you know what; it happened. Good Luck!

 

How do you remove the head light lens? Can any one direct me to an article on the subject? It looks like 3 plastic clips but I break plastic clips.

 

I used Silverstars for years in two of my cars and although I like them, they burn out every 6 months (drls) and their cost drove me to buy a set of 4300k hids. I will never go back to any form of a halogen bulb. I have had my hids for one year, they cost me 98.00 dollars shipped, I would be on my second set of Silverstars by now.

HID's are the way to go.

 

I agree as well I went from stock to 6000K HIDs for about $140 shipped installed and perfect.
