Audi A6 The mid-sized Audi A6 model offers more room to the driver and passengers over the A4 line.

Default Any body tried this or know if it would work

So my 2000 A6 is suffering from the usual problem of a center screen that has many dieing pixels.

So I started looking into the possibility of having it repaired. I did notice that the A8's from about 2000 and some later S4's used a different kind of center LCD screen (more like a TFT screen found in a computer). It looks about the same size as the one in my A6.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience of replacing the red LCD display with the ones used in the A8, or knows if it is possible.

Thanks
James

It wouldn't work to just replace one with the other, you'd have to do a lot of modifications which just wouldn't really work. The new ones use a whole different driver display and back-lighting system that aren't at all backwards compatible.

You can have it rebuilt for $120 with a lifetime warranty from ModuleMaster:

Whoa, that's pretty tempting. Have you got it done?

I have not, but I found out about them on another Audi forum. The user had used them and was happy. I guess they have a pretty fast turn around also.

Mine is starting to show horizontal lines, but only once the interior warms up. Not a big deal yet, but I know where to go when I get tired of it.

Thanks for that link trdltly, i have actually had a couple lines go here and there but they always seem to come back every once in a while... nothing too major, but it can get annoying, and this may be a good option once I get tired of it as well.

I have heard very good things avout these guys. The dash cluster removal is very simple thers a writ up somewhere on audiworld.

Downside is once the cluster is out; the car can not be started. I think.

I thought about getting a "spare" for just that. Either find one on eBay or car-parts.com and pull mine to send in and put the spare in place until it arrives. Then again modulemasters is located just a few hours north of me in Moscow, ID. I probably have another year before it bothers me enough to fix it. I am just missing one or two lines, so no biggie for now.

I'm pretty sure you would have immobilizer problems with just "switching" it out. I know for sure that they aren't just plug and play.
