Default Audi A6 C7 brake caliper rebuild/restore

A while ago (quite a while actually...) I posted about rebuilding brake calipers for an Audi A4 B8 Quattro.

This post will show you how anyone can rebuild the calipers of an Audi A6 C7 with some work. The outcome is worth the effort IMHO.

At least those who own one are aware that the A6/C7 has these semicircular indents at the jacking points. So, in order to be able to jack up the car properly, a set of jack pad adapters are needed. Since I didn't have such thing, I came up with this:

I made them from a broom handle actually :-) But they surely did the job:

So, car in the air, ready for the wheels and calipers to come off:

And with the help of my two assistants (my sons), this was accomplished nicely and in a timely manner.

Everything is now ready to go into the electrolysis bath. I have sealed every possible orifice/hole so that no water can get inside the calipers.

The pieces were left in the electrolysis bath for about one day or so. Everything was in decent shape so no problems encountered there whatsoever. Although the sealing of the wholes worked well (no water got inside the calipers), I did blow the heck out of them anyway. Just to make sure...

I forgot to take pictures of the cleaning process but I guess that's pretty straight forward to everybody. Just brush off all the dirt, clean the calipers with a solvent (brake cleaner worked just fine for me) and dry them very well before painting them. Then they're ready to be painted. And so I did:

Note the parts at the end of the calipers that have something black on them... That is not the paint from whatever I painted. Everything was properly wrapped with masking tape. Those parts are aluminum and I decided not to paint them. They actually look a lot better than they do in the picture above. Sometimes pictures can be tricky...

Here is another picture showing the rear calipers. I believe this one shows that the painting was done properly (or at least as good as a hobbyist like myself can do it :-)

Calipers installed:

And wheels on:

And here is the whole car. A pretty nice Audi A6 C7.

You can read about how I wrapped this car in the A6 C7 (4G) Black matte full wrap DIY post.
