Audi Newbie - Need some advice - Tranny issue
Background - Purchased 03 2.7T in April with 40K miles for $19K with extended warranty. Very clean exterior and interior. Will need tires by winter and has some wheel road rash but very minor.
Issue - CEL came on and had it diagnosed as a torque converter failure. Took it to tranny shop and they found some "material in the pan". They quoted the repair anywhere from $2.5K to $5K.
To activate the warrany I needed to get the oil/filter changed and then wait 500 miles and 16 days. Which I did. The initial claim had to include the oil/change paperwork. To make a long story short the a paperwork screw up with incorrect dates made the tranny issue look like a pre-existing condition. So the warranty company will not cover it.
Question - do I make the investment and have the transmission repaired not exactley knowing the cost or damage? Or do I dump the car in a trade and cut my losses?
Any advice from Audi veterans would be appreciated.

If you have a torque converter fault thats whats wrong with it. Might as well change the fluid and filter while your in there. The price the guy quoted you seems a little steep.
Lets see the 2.7T transmission usually pays 15 hours to remove and install at a usual rate of $100 an hour (depending where you are) which comes to $1500 in labor. The torque converter from Audi would be somewhere between $300-$500 which would bring you around the $2000 mark.
Add the fluid change and filter $150 total, and you should be looking at around $2200-$2500 if you were getting this repaired at the dealer. If someone told you around 5k i would tell them to shove it up thier ***. But if $2500 is well spent on that car if you ask me, its up to you.

i got my 02' 1.8T, and two months later the tranny **** out on me. same thing, the warranty wouldnt cover. had to buy a completely new tip tranny 4300$ plus labor 900$. its ran like a champ ever since and i love it. but hey, thats just my story. you have to ask yourself. if you could get it repaired for as cheap as auditech is saying, i would def. do that instead of taking the loss and going through the hassle of finding another car.

The $5K quote was worst case if for some reason the whole tranny had to be repalced. If it was TC probabaly in the $2k range. The tranny shop was recomended by local Audi dealer and independent Audi shop here in Colorado.

Ive never had to replace a transmission for a torque converter fault, maybe 20 2.7T torque converters replaced in my time so far. Just remember that when they try to screw you.

torque converter needs replaced..300-500 seems pretty cheap for a convertor..i know all the ones ive priced have been 700-900. 2500-3500 is a pretty reasonable price for this repair.
