aux. coolant pump
I currently have a coolant leak that is leaking near one of the turbos. I've done some reading on here and I'm thinking it is the aux. coolant pump. Are they notorious for leaking? And how hard would it be to replace own on my own? Basically what I'm asking is, do I have to take the engine apart or pull it out to get to it or can I do it with a little hassle? Oh, I forgot to mention I have the 2.7T.
The only turbo I have had, an 85 5000, it sat right up over the engine, couldn't miss it. Clamped int its cradle, undo the hoses, unbolt and disconnect the power, reverse the procedure.
No, I doubt very seriously that that little thing would run enogh coolant for the heater. Dedicated to cooling the Turbo bearings so you don't coke the oil.. Not a misspell. Hot enough that the oil actually could burn into a carbon solid. Funny, though, that mine died on me, ran it a few more years and the Turbo was working fine when I scrapped the car. Other problems made it a losing struggle to keep it roadworthy.
Cheers,
George
