Bad partYou gotta be shitting me!!!
Actually rocket motors are alot simpler than cars...lol
On a newer car the only thing I can think of is a valve not opening/closing properly...maybe try some fuel injector cleaner or some combustible cleaning agent to clean anything off the valve. Check there's enough oil, seals etc...

So, the dealer and the head mechanic spent over 20 hours of diagnosing time on the phone with Audi. They changed the ECU (why you ask..because their stupid). They changed the intake. Still the noise, they tore down the left bank...nothing out of the ordinary. End result. The cam seal adjuster was replaced and that is whats causing that noise. They say its normal. They even pulled in 2 4.2 of the same year off the lot and they have the same noise. AUDI says its normal and doesnt effect the performance or operability of the motor. I changed the air filter and they did a fule injection/throttle body techron douche. Car drives and accelerates better..better MPG...still the noise [:'(]. Maybe I have extra sensitive hearing or something--who knows. I got a free intake and cam seal adjuster (brand new) out of the deal so I doubt those will fail anytime soon. I ask this...If its normal, then why the 20 hour diagnosing time. i like my dealer and my service writer (they really do take good care of me and the car) but I call BullShit on this one. Its a mechanical noise. The car didnt make it when I bought it. Oh well, guess I'll live with it. Now, off to greener pastures with new HELLA tailights and Wheels coming..woohoo!
what oil are you using and did they change it & the oil filter, the sound is normal just when its time for an oil/filter change
stranger things have happened and the engine could be reminding you because the oil is crap cheap stuff or its lost its viscosity only oil for these engines is high quality full synthetic 0W/40 or 5W/30 semi synth

I do a full oil change every 4k with Mobil 1 5w 30. The just did the service with oil filter etc. Are you saying at 71k synthetic motor oil will take this sound away....Wierd...only at precisely 1100 rpm. Other than that sound, the motor is smooth as silk.
