Bad Starting (when warm)
Hi, I have a R registered A6 2.5 tdi avant. The car now has 251000 mile on the clock.
When starting from cold, the initial turn over sounds slower than in the past, speeds up then starts first time.
When having been run and stopped to nip into the shop, the engine will turn over at normal speed, but will take three or four LONG keying sessions (to the point where you think it will not start, orwill drain the battery).
It will then start, and run perfectly, if you decide to bump it off on a slope, it will start as soon as the clutch engages the engine and gearbox.
The battery is 12 month old and has been re-checked and found to be o/k.
Does anybody in Audiland have any suggestions.
Thanks
Handy Andy

Hi,
I posted previously, with regard to bad startingwhen warm.
I was advised to change the coolant temperature sensor, which we did and the car appeared to start better.
Unfortunately, we did not get long enough to prove or dis-prove this as a decicive cure to the problem, as two days later the starter motor died.
The starter motor may have been the true cause (as it was dying), or failing that, due to the prolonged turning over of the engine (while having a faulty temperature sensor) the starter motor was damaged to the point where it later failed completly.
Thanks for your help, I hope these added notes notes prove usefull to other forum members.
