Bogging down

I have a 2001 A6 and with 70,000 miles. The check engine light just came on and when I excelerate quickly, it boggs down. I am taking it in to be checked but wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts about this.

How do you excelerate? Do you mean accelerate?
