Default Boost gauge: mechanical or electrical?

I believe the boost gauge I just bought gives you the option to run it mechanically or electrically. I saw the vacuum hoses, so I know you can definitely go mechanical, I but I believe you can also operate it electrically using the boost sensor. It's still at the shop and I didn't read the directions yet...
If I have the choice, is one better, more reliable or accurate than the other?
I'll be doing my DV's and TBB at the same time, so The work involved will overlap anyway...
So any opinions/advice?

What kind of boost gauge is it? I would just use the mechanical part of it anyways, easier to install and easy to fix.
