Default brake booster vacuum line connector question

Hello,
I have a 2002 A6 Quattro 3.0. I just performed an intake cleaning through the brake booster vacuum line. As I was placing the line back into the booster, the plastic adapter snapped into a bunch of pieces. It is a plastic male-to-male part that fits snug into the vacuum line on one end and the brake booster on the other. Does anyone know what the proper name of the adapter is, what part number it may be, and if I have to go through Audi for the replacement part? Thanks a lot.

Default update to original question

I found out that the part that snapped is my brake booster vacuum line check valve. In order to get the part, I would have to purchase the entire vacuum line from the dealer for about $70.00. The only thing I need is the valve(about 50 cents worth of plastic) so the vacuum line stays connected to the brake booster. Has anyone had any success using any other type of connection or adapter? If I purchase the part, the dealer recommends replacing the entire line. I really do not want to replace the entire line because the intake manifold(where the other end of the vacuum line is connected) is very difficult to visualize and/or reach. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
