Default Brake Light Fiasco (04 A6 2.7)

I think I posted this when it first happened a month ago, but to be honest I can't quite remember. Well about December 2nd my brake lights stopped working entirely. So, after looking around I found that it was most likely my switch, and it could possibly have also been the reason for my car throwing an ABS Light at me. I ordered a new one albeit the wrong one. It came I ripped open the dash, and took out the old one and realized my mistake. Sent it back to the company and they were ordering me the correct one, but it was back-ordered from a dealership. Three weeks later (today) it comes in, and I install the new switch. Now with the new one in my brake lights come on, but won't shut off. Is it possible I received a faulty switch, or could this be a deeper, more serious/expensive problem? Also, If someone could please post a picture of the switch and everything re-assembled I would really appreciate it. I took it apart almost a month ago now, and can't remember how the switch was positioned.

Do not touch or push the brake pedal when you insert the brake pedal light switch. Notice the shape of insert opening is unique. The switch can be inserted one way and not the other. Once it's seated (a click) a quarter turn is all it needs to lock in position. Use flashlight to study it before start.

Alright, thanks for the tip. I'm just now waiting on another switch to see if this one was faulty. If not, I have no clue what to do.

Take the switch out and check it with a meter. It should have continuity unless you push the plunger in.

Is the installed switch being depressed by the brake pedal arm?

Never thought about a multimeter. And to think I work at Radio Shack lol. I'll pick one up tonight after work. But, the switch is not being touched by anything. I just plugged it in to see what would happen.

ALrihgt, got it in and working. No more ABS or ESP error codes and the car is running smoothly. Now on to the timing belt job.
