So the driver side door handle cable broke yesterday, and my wife didn't think rolling the window down every time she had to get out of the car was an acceptable solution. Looking at the cable, I'm assuming that it's probably a stealer only part, so I rigged a temporary alternative. I found that a piece of 1/16" diameter stainless steel TIG welding wire fits inside the cable surround, so I slid it through, bent a couple hooks on the ends, installed it, and shazam, it's working again. I'm tempted to leave it, but the stock wire is only about 0.050" diameter, so my new one doesn't slide quite as easily. I'll have to see if my wife notices. In case she does, does anybody know how much a real replacement costs?
