5HP19FLA is the model of your transmission by ZF.

Change the ATF and get a code reader.
If you drive to your mechanic every time MIL gets on - you'll spend much of your time on the the road to him.

I bought this one online www.amazon.com --- Roadi RDT45 at USD49.99 free shipping, no tax for Audi VW engines.

3.0 is a good motor but is bit complicated to work on. In the USA, timing belt job including water pump will cost you around $1500 or so.

Good choice on an Avant. I own a 01 Avant and couldn't be happier, but just make sure to put away some money each month to deal with maintenance and repair. Good looking ride!

Just a minor update.

Been driving it without a hitch for just over a month. I've changed the rear brakes, had the rims refurbished and straightened(had hit a curb at some point and were slightly bent)
Bought new winter tires (Toyo Garit KX) work wonderful with the awd and esp
Timing belt change at the dealership tomorrow.
Changing both front CV boots next weekend.
Tints next month and I'll be a happy panda, I love my Audi

www.shokan.com quoted me $140 for a used no scratch like new 'fat 5' OEM alloy rim ... I am thinking of replacing one having some bad looking scratches. To compare I may ask pricing from junk yards also.

Edit : Just saw one from junk yard, it states 'taken from spare' should be almost new, $100, in NH ... emailed my photo to confirm if same rim.

ok, it was time for a timing belt change. So I took it to the dealership

And they found recalls on coil packs and fuel pump wiring.

They changed the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, seals all around that, some misc. vacuum hoses, coil packs, fuel pump wiring.

and when they were about to hand over the car the transmission threw some codes and they can't figure out what's causing them.
tomorrow will be day 4 in the workshop.

thankfully they admitted that the transmission was fine when I handed them the car so I won't be paying for this. But 4 days without a car, taking public transport in the cold get's old quick.

Anyone have the slightest clue what might be causing a transmission to **** up after what they've done? I might be able to get the codes from them tomorrow.

The dealer does not give you a loaner?

Here in MA Audi dealers, any repair over 2 hrs, entitle to have a free loaner.

God ******* damnit... they found the problem.

Apparently the passenger side footwell sometime and somehow managed to fill up with water, and instead of using a sponge to get the water out.."LET'S DRILL A HOLE IN THE FLOOR; DURR HURRRRRR!"

water got into one of the wires for the transmission computer, corroded the wire to **** so troubleshootin it was a pain.

I'm just glad it broke when the dealership had the car. I'm filling in the holes tomorrow.

God that was annoying.
