Default Cam Sensor on a 3.0

Where are the camshaft position sensors on the 3.0?

On the back of the head, closest to the firewall.

Has a plug & an allen head bolt?
I keep getting a CEL & code P0343, camhaft postion sensor A bank 1, circuit high input. Goes on & off, when on the car sometimes runs sluggish, when off no problem.

I don't know how a 3.0 engine looks like (even less on a newer model), but on the 12V 2.8 engine there's only one camshaft position sensor, and is at the rear of the driver side bank's head.
The passenger side bank only has a cam plug there.

The passenger side bank's rear only has a "regular" camshaft seal + some sort of "sleeve" that the sensor slides or fastens on:

You are right, it should have a plug, but the sensor fastens with TWO Allen bolts (if I recall correctly are 10 Metric heads):

You can actually see the fastening holes in the middle pic.

No the 3.0L cam sensors (4 of them) are located at the back of the heads on top of the valve covers. They are held in by one allan bolt, it kinda looks like a plug like you said.

ughhhh...so basically the 3.0 has one sensor for each camshaft.
I bet it feels wonderful to be forced to replace all 4 at one time....sheesh

The 3.0L is a big pile of ****, i hate that motor. I've worked on more of those damn things that all the audi motors put together. There is a good reason audi only manufactured it for 3 years, then completely changed the design. While the 1.8T, 2.7T, 2.8L, and 4.2L all share the same head designes.

How do you really feel about the 3.0?
Which is bank 1?

So if I wanted to replace bank 1, I would change both cam sensors on the passenger's side? One is higher & to the right of the other.
The dealer quoted $54 for the impluse sender & $34 for the rotor.
