Can bad shocks cause a clunk sound?
Here's the deal. For quite some time now I've had this clunk sound appear from the front end of the car on my wife's 98 A6 2.8L Quattro. The strangest thing is that this issue is temperature sensitive. Whenver it's over 80 degrees outside I can hear this clunk, clunk sound when I start off from a stopped position. When it's cold outside I don't hear anything although I bet it's there just not audible enough.
I can also feel the clunk through the pedals.
I've had all the CA's replaced and the outer tie rod ends replaced. The CV boots have also been replaced. My indie mechanic did all of the work.
I'm getting ready to have my front shocks replaced by him along with the bump stops and mounts. Could this be the culprit of a clunk sound that appears in hotter temps only????

When I did my control arms I started having a similar clunking sound after I did my control arms. I think what happened is while I was dinking around under the wheel I messed up the alignment of the spring. Apparently it has to be just so otherwise it makes noise.
