Arrow Can i use an A8 trans in my A6?

AS the title states im just curious if I could swap a a8 trans into my A6 4.2? I know the engines are the same but I couldnt find a clear answer as to the transmissions. Thanks in adavnce.

I would look for the exact same model/gear ratio trans no mater what it is coming out of. You could get a trany from an A6 with the wrong gear ratio. If it is the same model and gear ratio it is going to work.

I know the gearing is slightly different but im more worried about the mounting locations, output shaft, overall length ect. I cant find a good referrence for part numbers and even if I did they are probably different due to the gearing. Hopefully I wont need a new trans but just incase I'd liek to know if this is an option.
