My 2000 A6 4.2 came with all-weather Dunlop SP 5000 tires in an unusual size (235-50-R16). I replaced the tires last year (10k miles ago) with the same Dunlop SP 5000 tires. I just had a blowout I now need to replace the tire, and the Dunlop SP 5000 tires have been discontinued. Both my Audi delaer and a local major tire retailer both tell me there are no all-weather tires made in this size any longer. Audi recommends a 235-45-R17. To me this is crazy. I do not want to change the rims (about $2500 for Audi factory 17" plus all new tires) but I can see no alternative. Can anyone help? Thanks.

 

First, find a new Audi dealer. Next, give Gary at www.tirerack.com a ring. He knows Audis extremely well (moderates the wheels & tires forum at audiworld.com) and should be able to help you out. There is certainly no need to get new wheels.

 

245/50/16s will fit and will not impact the speedo or the quattro.
