Car smoking from exhaust...!!!!
What's going on? A curse? I live in frozen WI and my 2001 2.7T started blowing tons of smoke today on the way home. Reeked of oil when I parked it. I haven't even been out to look at it yetso I have no idea what's going on. Sign me up for that suit........

A cursory examination tonight showed evidence of excessive crankcase pressure on mine. You can see where it was blowing out under the oil filler cap under pressure. Definitely blowing out the exhaust too (past the rings?).I loosened the cap andran it some. Seemed ok. Minimal smoke and that could have been fromresidual oil.But it's so damn cold it's hard to tell. I'm going toreplace the vac pump, pcv, valvecover & tensior gaskets, pray, and see what happens. Probably checkthe intercooler hoses for oil.
It's been everything from sub zero to freezing rain last weekend here so I'm hoping for just a frozen pump or pcv.

I recently had the same smoking issue during a cold day....had it towed to shop and it was the crankcase ventilation system (PCV valve etc). Cost $680 by the time it was done....but no more smoking.
When it warms up I am going to need to pull the belly pan and powerwash it because I know some excess oil fell onto it (I have seen some drops below the car after parked and upon an intial exam I can see that there is some residue on the belly pan). I am also curious about that Audi vented oil cap as that might be worth the investment just in case.
My mechanic never looked at the intercoolers so I'm hoping there isn't any oil sitting in them....but it hasn't smoked since the repair so maybe I'm ok. I'm still driving nervous though....I glance back checking for smoke a LOT more often now.

I worked on it this weekend. Removed the spider hose and it's related pcv plumbing. There was ice in there. Not totally clogged but it could have been at some point. Cleaned it all out good and re-assembled. It smoked some when I got on it when I first drove it but ithas decreased to the point where now I see none and it drives fine. Pulled the belly pan today and drained about 1/2 cup of oil from each intercooler hose. I think I have a cam seal or tensior gasket leaking also but that may have been pre-existing.I was starting to get some oil smell before. The breather problem probably just exacerbated it. With 85K it's probably time to do the timing belt, cam seals, and top end re-seal and pray the turbos are ok. I can do the rest myself.
hey guys... i had this same problem with my 2000 a6 2.7t... last year it smoked like hell one day when it was below 20 degrees... all we did was change oil and add oil stop leak stuff... it was good til this winter and then it did it again in freezing temps... so i was curious and found this thread... i think this might be my problem too... still worried bout the turbos cause i have 120,000 miles but this makes more sense cuz it only smokes like that when its cold... would buying that part fix the problem... or would it still do it... is it because the valve is worn out or it is just a faulty audi part... dealer wants $220 for the part but im not sure if this will stop the problem... the guy that took the pcv valve hose off for me said he tried to clean it out n get most of the oil out... he said it was even in the air filter... but i drove it today and didnt really get smoke... just a very little but i hope thats a lil oil still left in the system... any thoughts comments or opinions would be greatly appreciated... thanks ... i think im going to get rid of the car cuz im going to always worry bout it....
