Default Car Won't Turn Over

I have a 2000 A6 8 cylinder with 100,000 miles on it. The car has a problem turning over...it turns over ever so slightly but not enough to fire. It has power, timing belt did not go, and there is oil still in the engine. I heard it might have jumped timing or the torque converter might be stuck. Would any of these things be major? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I am not sure what you are describing. Is it turning over and just not starting? Or is it only turning maybe half a crank then getting stuck. Seems like a dumb question, but make a difference (well to me at least). If its the first one, is it getting fuel?

It turns over ever so slightly and then gets stuck just as you described. Hopefully that will help with the description. Thanks again for the help. I understand that its very hard to figure out without acutally looking at the car.

What happened right before the symtoms occured. It is possible that the piston is hitting the valves and getting stuck. Are there any strange noises that occur other than the normal engine turning over sounds? Why do you/they suspect a jumped timing belt?

If it is the belt, then you need a belt job, I don't know if you would have done valve damage. If so you will need to have a valve job done as well at least. You are talking about a bunch of money. If the torque converter is not disengaging, then you would still be able to start the car, just not be able to put it in gear without the car stalling.

Your sure the belt is still there right?

Check the battery. Sounds like a weak battery.
