is that cat 5 in my center console?
Ok, soI was cleaning my car and I decided to venture into the center console. I usually just let it be but today I was determined to get a good sweep of the place. Upon opening it and taking everything out, I found a small jack. Having a base knowledge of computers, I inspected it and was able to insert a CAT-5 cable into it snuggly. What? Is this for reading the ECU reports and error codes? Or is my car just one massive Wi-Fi antenna.... I guess just out of curiousity, if I took my laptop out there and plugged it into my car, what would happen?

I have no idea, but I too am the curious type... Let us know what happens. I can't guarantee it won't end up in smoke!

I'm pretty sure it is what the car phone would have used to communicate with its base. My old Saab had an ethernet port that the handset for the phone plugged into. Just a though.

Well, I'm sorry to report that my lap top didn't go up in smoke, as you can tell.... If it is for a phone, where do i get a headset and who is the service provider? Now I'm curious to find out... Someone tell me what I need to exploit this feature.

You can, or use to be able to get the phones from the dealer ship, you would have to check with providers to see who whould be able to give you service.
But with cell phones being so cheap, why whould you want one?
