Default change the idle speed?

does anybody know how to change the speed at which the car idles when parked? my power steering pump needs a little gas in order to turn the steering wheel and i think this could be fixed if i turned up the idle speed about 200 rpms. any ideas on how to change it? screw, valve, computer?

I do not know about a 97 but it's probably the same. On my 02 you need a VAG-COM and you can access the computer and adapt the idle. It will increase by small incriments. You also need the bentley manual for your car to read how it's done. Do you have a Vag-Com?

Ya checking the pump would help. I was thinking of parking in NYC, there is no room so your constantly turning your wheel without the car in motion. I assume that is why the engine is at idle while turning. Just so you know if you can avoid turning the wheel while without the car in motion it is alot easier on the front end.
If it is whining a little check fluid level and some of the whining threads.

I suggest membership in a gym and stop blaming the vehicle.

i just had it at the shop yesterday. i am going to houston, so yes parking is all i am worried about. i got a buddy with a vag-com and i will give it a shot. (i am kind of broke to just get the pump done, saving money for the move)

I agree -- a band aid just covers up the real problem!
