Default Clunking in Steering Column

I bought a used 1999 Audi A6 with 114K miles a few months back. Yesterday while turning around in my driveway, I started to hear this clunking noise coming from the steering column inside the drivers compartment. It made this noise (and you feel it as well) in every turn I made driving my son to school. When I got home I noticed a piece of duck tape laying on the floor. I felt up underneath (couldn't bend to look up there) and could feel other duck tape. Any idea what might be loose that was being held in place? Any idea how to remove the lower panel to get a better look? How about good places to get manuals? Didn't even come with an owner manual.

I have a 1998 A6 that had a similar issue with the noise. It turns out my steering rack was loose. There are 2 bolts that connect the steering rack to the frame of the car that came loose. They use a spline socket, 12 point socket, to tighten them. I had to remove the battery and the battery bracket to get to the bolts. I tighten them up and the noise went away. I think there may be a bolt that must be accessed underneath the car but I was unable to locate that one.

thanks, I'll check that out. Nothing feels loose when I try to wiggle the steering wheel, but it's worth looking at it. I ordered some manuals as well, no time like the present to teach my 16yr old to start working on used cars.
