Default Coolant leak = Water pump?

2000 Audi A6 Quattro 2.8L

Coolant leak on the lower passenger side front. Is this the location of the water pump? It seems to be leaking down and on the ground. but not overheating. Temp gauge does not get hot / in the red as we shut it down after noticing leak.

Does anyone have a diagram showing the location of the water pump and or the auxiliary water pump? How long for the average DIY replacement? What should a shop charge # of hours?

Thank you,

What is the engine code? Because of insulation - it could leak from anywhere?

Water pump leak will go straight down the center of the engine. Yours sounds more like a lower radiator hose. There are also oil cooler hoses down there somewhere that could be the leak. Take your belly pan off and see if you can see coolant on the lower hoses. If it is coming from the engine, then it is more likely to be the water pump. Fun job! I just finished it.

Good luck,

Bob

The car is at the Goodyear shop, I changed my mind as far as getting them to do a diagnostic, I will get it home today and crawl under there..

This leak seems more on the lower left (pass) side spraying the area below the motor, around the lower radiator hose..and oil cooler hoses...

I was trying to find a diagram of the pulleys etc to help point out the problem area..are there any good, free online manuals..or resources...?

My 97 Avant has a steel Tube across the front of the motor with short sections of hose at each end. The hose on the passenger side likes to leak.

The drivers side - near the oil filter - also has a couple hoses that are hard to change.

I would diagnose in a hurry. Keep in mind that if it is the water pump, it is driven off of the timing belt so when the pumps bearings finally let go and sieze...bye bye cylinder heads!

Default Water pump a4 2005

Okay... I been having the same issue... Coolant leaking.. Car is no longer under warranty.. even tho I have only 25,000 miles.. Took the car in to audi the first time for the leak... they replace the coolant seal and the rear right and life differential seal. which cost $1200.00.. Now three months later my car starts to leak again. Took it in to audi for the recall repair and got the leak checked out. They now say it is the water pump that needs to be replaced. Which will cost me 125 for parts and 125 an hour x 5 hours. Total price for repair $775 plus tax!!!

That's because the timing belt has to come off to get to the water pump. I did mine myself and $775 isn't so bad!
